In words of the architects at Saraiva + Associados, the ambition was to design landmark building for Awaza Congress Center in Turkmenistan, not only as a national monument, but an icon that would be recognized internationally. Its monumental form is derived from a strong symbolic concept which reflects patriotic and cultural values of the country. Transmitting internal organization of Turkmenistan, the volume of the building is broken into five larger groups of spaces, materializing five provinces and forming a Congress Hall as a whole. Five elements are Circulation element, Auditorium element, Events, Business and Square element. National motifs in interiors and dominant green color tone – color of Turkmenistan flag reflect patriotic aims.

Functional organization is directed by major requirements of a modern Congress Center, which has to enable heavy use and constant visits. Organizational scheme of this building is based on open spaces – atrium and circulations, which provide a balance with large scale and heavy volumes of the Center. The direct connection of the spaces to atrium is designed as an enclosed plaza of several levels. The building facilitates three auditoriums with 3900 seats, two negotiation rooms with 420 seats and four meeting rooms with 520 seats. The restaurant with a ballroom, Snack-bar and Gourmet Restaurant with a capacity of 2450 people ensure that this Congress Center meets high standards of modern buildings of this type.

Besides the aim to design an architectural piece that would perfectly fit into the urban context, the architects wanted to create a building with an empty coastline and pleasant plaza, overlooking the Caspian Sea.
