The project is located in one of the largest wholesale trade of Santo Domingo where both merchants and consumers go there in large numbers of people. This is the architect thesis project of Abel Castillo at the UNPHU University (Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña ) and was advised by Architect Juan Mubarak.

The semiotics of Villacon market environment are a mixture of colors, patches, and “spontaneous and chaotic” organizations, for this reason we try to apply all these physical and cultural patterns so the user would be able to adapt more easily to this solution, using color mixtures and natural distributions applying chaotic and random space distributions.

In this project we have made a solution that tries to maintain the natural and economic resources, where also the building will make earnings for the improvement of the surrounding communities. Born with the need to reinstate a market which construction stopped in 2002, the project try to enhance the great commercial cluster where is located that lacks the economic resources for its proper maintenance.

The project is divided into 3 main areas where the ground floor and the underground is used by the market which uses moving parts that cause sellers to shape their spaces according to the needs of their business, the second and 3rd level is used as parking lots and the 4th level as a planting area, all this having the building envelope made by 275,145 pixels that can be rented for a price of US$ 1.00 per month per pixel, also taking into account the rotation of each engine advertising column is driven by the biomass plant that uses the daily waste produced in the market and in the planting area. Conceptually its envelope was conceived trying to emulate the identity of advertising-saturated buildings around it, that is why we designed a building with 4 visible sides managed to rent this spaces for a small cost. This project fits the spontaneous personality of the user both visually and functionally, where users of this location tend to sit at any height because of the informality of the neighborhood, that is the reason why we propose the modular public space in several spots so the citizen can configure it the way they prefer.
