Designed for the Luminale 2012 in Frankfurt, Germany, Kollision’s Photophore installation is a five storey veil of light that is operated by a smart phone. In order to make the veil act as if it being pushed, pulled or thrown in, the people on street can use an application: by scanning a QR code mounted on the façade, the users are brought to a website which invites them to swipe their finger across the touch screen of their smart phones.
The original concept was initiated by Jochen Schröder & Katja Winkelmann who also planned the project; Martin Professional are responsible for hardware and installation and Kollision developed the interaction & programmed the interactive player. The Photophore software is built in C++ and uses the Cinder library to create the real-time 3D responsive veil. A website was the chosen means of interaction allowing easier accessibility through html5’s javascript web socket technology.
To commemorate the 2013 Skyscraper Competition, eVolo published a collector’s edition of its highly acclaimed book “eVolo Skyscrapers”. The book is a two-volume, 1300-page set with the best 300 projects received during the last years. Only 150 copies are available worldwide.
